Pipe Butt Welding

Pipe butt welding equipment is ideal for welding thermoplastics, such as polyethylene, polypropylene and PVDF, etc. Pipe butt welding is mainly used in construction of hydraulic lines, firefighting systems, sanitation, irrigation, industrial facilities, water treatment and as a part of some industrial processes. Unlike manual welding by heat gun and extrusion, butt welding technology allows the welding to encompass the full thickness of the pipe.

This butt welding process consists of a clamp system to keep the material aligned, a heating plate with teflon or PTFE coating (non-stick) and a manual or hydraulic pressure system. Butt welding equipment can be manual, semi-automatic and automatic. It can also weld piping, stubend, flanges and fittings either in the field or in a workshop.

In addition to that, butt welding process must follow certain rules that dictate the temperature, pressure and heating and cooling time according to the material, diameter and thickness of the pipe. The consequences for not following these parameters will affect the quality and lifespan of the thermofusion.

The most important feature to consider in a butt welding equipment is the temperature stability of the heating plate and the hydraulic pressure. Furthermore one must bear in mind that to achieve good results, the thermofusion must be carried out by trained personnel with the adequate material, equipment and tools
