Sheet Butt Welding
Sheet butt welding equipment is ideal for welding thermoplastics, such as polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC, CPVC, PVDF, etc.
Plastic welding is mainly used in construction of tubs, tanks, water and chemical containers, and as part of an industrial process.
Unlike manual welding by heat gun and extrusion, butt welding technology allows the welding to encompass the full thickness of the sheet.
This butt welding process consists of a welding table for the sheets, clamps to keep the material aligned, a heating plate with teflon or PTFE coating (non-stick) and a manual or hydraulic pressure system.
Butt welding equipment can be manual, semi-automatic and automatic. They can also weld horizontally, vertically (90º walls) and rolled to make cylinders.
In plastic welding it's important to choose the right equipment according to the application. This is determined based on the type of material, thickness, surface and other variables to be taken into consideration.
The most important feature to consider in a butt welding equipment is the temperature stability of the heating plate and the hydraulic pressure. Furthermore one must bear in mind that to achieve good results, the thermofusion must be carried out by trained personnel with the adequate material, equipment and tools.
